It was Cancer Awareness Night for round two of the Washington and Fairfield rivalry showdown on Friday with the Demons splitting the girl/boy basketball doubleheader.
As heard on KCII, the Demon boys utilized a fast offensive start and pulled away late to capture a season sweep of the Trojans (1-4) with a 61-45 win. Fairfield’s Max Weaton was averaging 25 points a night coming in and quickly recorded 10 first quarter points. Washington’s Lucas Kroll then drew the assignment on the sophomore and held him to just four points the rest of the game. Weaton’s first quarter kept the Trojans around trailing just 19-12 after one and 33-21 at the break. Fairfield started the second half on a 6-0 run, but the Demons answered with a run themselves to get it back to double digits and the game never got any closer. The Demon girls (1-8) are riding high after picking up their first win on Monday against Burlington by a 53-52 final. Anna Nacos led all scorers with 23 points and Josie Tanner recorded a career-high 19 points. They will need to carry that momentum into tonight against a Fairfield (2-1) team they lost to by a 53-22 score in December.
