Over the last few months, Tim Sontag has been doing his best to settle into a well-earned retirement. After 38 years of running Xenia Shoe & Leather Repair a shop he founded the longtime village resident has officially called it a career.
“It’s a little bittersweet. I definitely miss some things about it,” he recently told the News.
The store sells a wide variety of shoes from tennis shoes to dress shoes and also offers specialized fitting and advanced leather repair. A professional pedorthist, Sontag became known for helping people get a shoe that would fit them just right, as well as fixing up any leather products.

The bridges were closed, the storefronts were boarded up, and the streets were barricaded. Washington, D.C., had been turned into an urban fortress.
As more than 20,000 National Guardsmen flocked into the nation’s capital in preparation for Inauguration Day, the city was locked down in an unprecedented way, the troops part of the largest security presence at any inauguration in American history and the largest National Guard presence in any American city since the Civil War.
The official website of the inauguration ceremony for incoming President Joe Biden encouraged citizens to view the event online and at home, and Muriel Bowser, the Mayor of D.C., had put pressure on area hotels and Airbnbs not to host any guests in the days leading up to the ceremony.

The world of theater has many forms, and puppetry is among its oldest and most captivating. The first puppeteer took the stage sometime in the fifth century B.C., and since then the art form has expanded immensely. There are finger puppets, hand puppets, sock puppets, shadow puppets, muppet puppets, marionettes and more.
As winter turns to spring in 2021, the Yellow Springs area will be introduced to a new kind of puppet: the traveling puppet.
The Traveling Tabletop Theater, or TTT, is a mobile puppet theater complete with a stage, a sound system and even seating for a few dozen spectators, which will be touring the streets of Yellow Springs later this year. The organization behind this operation is the YS Kids Playhouse, or YSKP, and specifically John Fleming, its founder and longtime artistic director.
