Despite the ban on motorbikes on Padma Bridge, hundreds of two-wheelers have been showing up at Mawa toll plaza to cross the river since this morning. Around 500 motorbikes have been turned away by traffic police and the bridge's toll authorities from 6am to 11:30am today (June 27, 2022).

The authorities were supposed to allow only ambulances and vehicles carrying patients and the dead, but people on their way to their village homes who reached the terminal via whatever vehicle they could avail, boarded the ferry ignoring all restrictions.
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were seen discharging their duties one km off the Shimulia ghat, but passengers were rushing through various routes.
Police put barricade on Dhaka-Mawa highway and were seen refusing vehicles trying to reach the ghat.
Hundreds of passengers were seen waiting at the ghat at 1:00pm today.

Ferry services between Shimulia and Banglabazar were suspended for over two hours yesterday morning when a motorcade of the BNP was supposed to go across the Padma river.
BNP leaders and activists, who were on the way to a rally in Barishal, then left their vehicles and hired boats to go across the river.
The authorities concerned said there was a technical issue, but BNP leaders said the services have been suspended around 8:00am just to prevent them from joining the rally.
