BOGOTA, April 7 (Reuters) - Colombia s fiscal sustainability will disappear in the medium-term unless congress approves a government-backed tax reform proposal, Finance Minister Alberto Carrasquilla said on Wednesday.
The government will seek to raise the equivalent of 2.2% of gross domestic product, about $7.1 billion, with the reform, Carrasquilla said.
Colombia s fiscal deficit increased to 7.8% of GDP last year as it spent more to combat the coronavirus pandemic even as tax collection fell.
The government predicts the deficit will further widen this year to 8.6% of GDP - equivalent to some $25.9 billion.
