It’s been nearly two years since the idea of constructing a splash pad in Espanola was brought to council. In that time, a committee has been formed, the splash pad has been costed out, but there is still no firm commitment from the Town of Espanola to move forward.
At its last regular meeting on May 11, council took up a motion that was on the agenda to set aside $75,000 towards the project, with the hopes of installing the splash pad next year. It was ultimately deferred.

Espanola council heard from the Espanola Pickleball Group at the Jan. 26 regular meeting. Presenting on behalf of the group were residents Mike Brady and Greg McCulloch, who both were introduced to the sport in Florida, where they winter at retirement communities.
“I’ve met all of my friends in Florida through pickleball,” said McCulloch, the former owner/operator of Cortina Restaurant. “It’s great for active seniors, but it’s a sport for everyone.”
