Immigration hands over C River suspected child trafficker to NAPTIP – Punch Newspapers

Punch Newspapers Sections Ada Wodu, Calabar A suspected child trafficker, Maureen Awokara, has been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons. Awokara was arrested with a three-week-old baby by the marine patrol team of the Nigeria Immigration Service in Cross River State on December 19 on the high sea. Confirming the handover, the Cross River State Comptroller of Immigration, James Ezugwu, said, “We have handed over the suspect to NAPTIP. From our preliminary investigation, we suspect that she was involved in child trafficking. NAPTIP should be able to carry out further investigation.” The Immigration boss said Awokara, who claimed to be a native of Imo State, told stories about the owner of the child that did not add up.

Welcome To Ladun Liadi s Blog Wednesday, December 23, 2020 Marine team of Nigeria Immigration rescues trafficked three-week old baby on high sea [photos] The Marine Patrol team of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, in Cross River has rescued a three-weeks old baby suspected to be a victim of child trafficking at the high sea. The Cross River Comptroller of NIS, Mr Okey Ezugwu, who spoke with Vanguard on the incident in Calabar, said that the suspected child trafficker, Mrs Maureen Awokara, was arrested on Dec. 19, 2020, at the high sea. Ezugwu said that the suspect was arrested by the marine officers on patrol following her inability to give a comprehensive explanation on the true ownership of the baby.
