The attorney for one of the Connecticut residents arrested Wednesday during the Washington protests called it a little extreme for his client to now be banned from the District of Columbia.
Groton residents Victoria Bergeson and Maurcio Mendez, both 40, were among the dozens of people arrested Wednesday and early Thursday in the aftermath of a mob storming the Capitol building in protest of Joe Biden being formally approved as the next president.

At least two Connecticut residents have been arrested during a riot in the U.S. Capitol Building that began shortly after a rally by President Donald Trump, his son, Donald Trump Jr., and his attorney Rudy Giuliani.
The Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia said that during the violent rampage on Wednesday, Jan. 6, at least 70 people were arrested including a man and woman from Connecticut:
Maurcio Mendez, age 40, was arrested Wednesday, Jan. 6, for offenses at the 100 Block of First Street NW and was charged with curfew violation and unlawful entry.
Victoria Bergeson, age 40, was also arrested for offenses at the 100 Block of First Street NW and charged with curfew violation and unlawful entry.
WASHINGTON, D.C. (WFSB) At least two Connecticut residents were arrested after being involved in the unrest at the U.S. Capitol building on Wednesday afternoon.
According to an arrest report from Washington D.C.âs Metropolitan Police, 40-year-old Maurcio Mendez and 40-year-old Victoria Bergeson were both arrested.
They were charged with curfew violation and unlawful entry.
Metropolitan police told Eyewitness News that they both did enter the Capitol building on Wednesday.
They spent the night in jail and are both due in court sometime Thursday.
The two arrests were among the list of more than 50 arrests seen on the Metropolitan Police Departmentâs website Thursday morning.
One woman was shot by law enforcement inside the U.S. Capitol building and later died. Three others died of medical emergencies during the chaos, according to police.
The U.S. Attorney from Connecticut, John Durham, is asking anyone who may have information on Wednesday s riot at the U.S. Capitol to call the FBI.
“We encourage people with information related to the activity yesterday at the U.S. Capitol to contact the FBI. If the District of Connecticut is the appropriate venue for the prosecution of individuals involved in that disgraceful and criminal activity, our office will aggressively pursue any such matter,” Durham said Thursday.

Two Connecticut residents were arrested following the storming of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. Wednesday, Metro Police confirmed.
