Development top of the agenda to candidates in Wroughton and Wichelstowe

Swindon Road in Wroughton The size of Wroughton and the encroachment of Swindon on the village will be an issue in Wroughton and Wichelstowe. The ward is the third largest in area but most of it is rural, apart from the village of Wroughton and the growing development area of Wichelstowe. But Wroughton looks set to grow. Swindon Borough Council’s latest local plan suggests that it is one of two areas – along with Blunsdon and Highworth – to take a significant growth in housing, with two allocations of 300 homes each for Wroughton. The rationale is it is easier and cheaper to build in villages where infrastructure exists than create new areas of town.

£1m new pavilion in Wroughton given go-ahead after Scouts and BMX club plea

Maunsell Way pavilion Youth groups in Wroughton are celebrating the prospect of a brand new £1m pavilion on the playing field in Maunsell Way. The scheme was given the go-ahead after members of the village scout troop and its BMX club impressed Swindon Borough Council’s planning committee which was considering a plan by the parish council to demolish the small single-story existing pavilion and build a new centre. The building will be divided up to provide a main hall, smaller secondary hall, and dedicated rooms for early years groups. Crucially for many youth groups who want to use the new hall, it will have storage and toilets accessible from outside when the rest of the building is closed.
