2013 mayhem in Dhaka: Hefajat leader Ihteshamul denied bail Maulana Ihteshamul Haque Sakhi Star Digital Report Star Digital Report A Dhaka court today rejected a bail petition of Maulana Ihteshamul Haque Sakhi, former joint office secretary of Hefajat-e-Islam, and sent him to jail in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem in Dhaka. Metropolitan Magistrate Begum Yeasmin Ara passed the order after Md Kamrul Hasan Talukder, an inspector of the Detective Branch of police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced Ihteshamul before the court on completion of his four-day remand in the case. In today s forwarding report, the IO said Ihteshamul gave important information about the 2013 mayhem, which was being verified. Moreover, he will be shown arrested in one more case filed over the recent violence, he mentioned. Appeals have been made before the court to keep Ihteshamul in jail until the investigation

Photo: collected Star Digital Report Star Digital Report A Dhaka court today placed two leaders of Hefajat-e-Islam on different periods of remand in two separate cases filed with Paltan Police Station over the 2013 mayhem and recent violence in Dhaka. The leaders are, Khaled Saifullah Ayubi, joint secretary general of Hefajat-e-Islam and Maulana Ihteshamul Haque Sakhi, joint office secretary of Hefajat. Khaled Saifullah was placed on a five-day remand in the case filed with Paltan Police Station over the violence on March 26 protesting the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi while Sakhi was placed on a four-day remand in the case filed with the same police station over the 2013 mayhem in Dhaka.

Meanwhile, 16 cases filed after the recent violence by Hefajat-e-Islam in six districts were transferred to the Police Bureau of Investigation. Rab arrested Khaled Saifullah Ayubi, joint secretary general of Hefajat, in Manikganj early yesterday. He is accused in a case filed with Paltan Police Station after the violence in March this year, Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Rab s Legal and Media Wing director, told The Daily Star.
