At 5:31 p.m., radar and rain gages showed heavy rainfall over several areas on Maui. Peak rates of 1 to 2 inches were recorded over the slopes of Haleakalā near Hāna, and over the West Maui Mountains near Kahakuloa and Waikapū.
The National Weather Service has canceled the Flood Advisory that was in effect earlier today for the island of Maui. The NWS reports that weather radar shows the heavy rain has diminished and flooding is no longer expected to pose a threat at this time.
“Peak rain rates of 1 to 3 inches have been occurring along the windward slopes from Haʻikū to Hāna. Heavy rainfall has also been moving over Upcountry Maui. This rainfall is expected to produce flooding is the normally dry gulches in the Kīhei and Wailea areas. Additional rainfall is expected to move over the island from the east through the afternoon.”
