A federal assistance program that helps low-income families with their electricity bills will begin taking applications next month.
Applicants can apply once for the Energy Credit program from June 1 to June 30 from their county’s nonprofit program working with LIHEAP, or the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. We process all of the applications, we submit it to the state, and the state will provide credit to each of the eligible households, said Cassi Yamashita, Director of Community Services for Maui Economic Opportunity. It varies from children in the household, their income criteria, what kind of housing structure you live in. Those kinds of things are put into consideration when determining the credit amount.
