Senator Cleophas Malala out on Sh2 5 million bond

Former Sports CS Rashid Echesa released on bail

[Photo: George Njunge] A Kiambu court has released former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa on a Sh1 million cash bail or a surety bond of Sh1 million with the mention of the case slated for  April 9. Kiambu chief magistrate Patricia Gichohi also ordered Echesa to be visiting DCI headquarters every Monday till the mention date. Echesa was also ordered not to interfere with any witnesses. ”The mention of the matter will be on April 9 when the investigation officer will come to confirm to the court if he intended to close the miscellaneous application file charge or discharge,” Gichohi said.

Echesa said that his arrest was politically motivated. Echesa was captured on camera in an altercation with an IEBC official at Bulonga Primary School polling station in Matungu on March 4. He claimed that a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) agent had been evicted from the polling station in unclear circumstances by the security team under the instruction of a presiding officer. ANC s Peter Nabulindo stretches lead in Matungu

THE STANDARD By Brian Kisanji | March 5th 2021 at 06:07:04 GMT +0300 ANC candidate Peter Nabulindo has won the Matungu by-election. Nabulindo garnered 14,257 votes, trouncing his closest challenger, David Were of Orange Democratic Movement, who got 10,565 votes. Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer John Kirui declared Nabulindo the winner of the hotly contested by-election. Third in the race to replace the late MP Justus Murunga was United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Alex Lanya who garnered 5,513 votes. Other candidates in the race like Charles Kasamani (United Democratic Party) had 143, Paul Achayo (Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) 139 and Faida Auma (Maendeleo Chap Chap) 257.
