Harland & Wolff revives Neart na Gaoithe jacket job

Harland & Wolff has signed a contract to carry out the fabrication and load-out of eight of the jacket foundations for the 450MW Neart na Gaoithe offshore wind farm off the east coast of Scotland. The deal is between Neart na Gaoithe owners EDF Renewables and ESB, the tier one service provider Saipem and InfraStrata, owner of Harland & Wolff. Work will start on 1 July, with Harland & Wolff using its Methil facilities in Fife, recently acquired from BiFab. About 290 direct and indirect jobs will be created by the contract. Additional support may be provided as required by the company’s other facilities in Arnish, Appledore and Belfast with Saipem’s consent and should the need arise.

Saipem hands Harland & Wolff major contract on UK offshore wind farm

16 April 2021 8:38 GMT Updated  16 April 2021 9:31 GMT in  London Infrastrata-owned Harland & Wolff has been handed a major fillip with the award of a a £26 million ($35 million) contract to build eight wind turbine generator foundation jackets for the 450 megawatt Neart na Gaoithe (NNG) wind farm at its newly acquired Methil site in Scotland, creating almost 300 new jobs in the process. Harland & Wolff was handed the sub-contract by Italian giant Saipem, the main construction contractor to NNG partners EDF Renewables and ESB on the $2.5 billion scheme. InfraStrata struck a deal with troubled fabricator Burntisland Fabrication (BiFab) in February to acquire the Methil site in Fife and the Arnish facility on the west coast of Scotland for up to £850,000 ($1.17 million) in cash, with both trading under the Harland & Wolff brand.

Eyemouth confirmed for NnG O&M base

Neart na Gaoithe (NnG) Offshore Wind Limited and Eyemouth Harbour Trust have signed a lease that confirms the harbour as the operations and maintenance base for the 450MW offshore wind farm off Scotland. Construction of NnG’s three storey, 1040 square metre O&M building and its two storey, 538 square metre storage warehouse at Eyemouth Harbour will start next month. The O&M building, designed by Corstorphine + Wright Architects, will house the office, warehouse and staff welfare facilities required to support the servicing of NnG once the wind farm is fully operational in 2023. The investment in Eyemouth will provide up to 50 permanent jobs.
