Evgeny Svechnikov steps up in Red Wings season debut

Evgeny Svechnikov, in his Red Wings season debut, had a goal and an assist while Jonathan Bernier made 33 saves in a 5-3 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.
The Red Wings (7-13-3), coming off a 5-2 victory over Nashville Thursday, won for the first time in five games against Chicago (11-7-4).

Danny DeKeyser was up at 5:30 in the morning on New Year’s Day after a restless night, like a rookie approaching his first training camp, not the eight-year NHL veteran and second-longest tenured Detroit Red Wing that he is.
But Friday was like starting all over again for the 30-year-old defenseman. While his teammates have been away from the game for an extended time due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been even longer for DeKeyser.
