An Alabama doctor and her husband have been sentenced to federal prison for prescribing and dispensing controlled substances without a legitimate medical purpose and outside the course of professional practice.
The Department of Justice on Wednesday announced the sentencings of Dr. Elizabeth Korcz, 48, and Matthew Korcz, 27, both of Hoover. Elizabeth Korcz was sentenced to 52 months in prison, and her husband to 30 months.
The physician and her husband were arrested in 2019 as part of nationwide federal takedown of medical professions accused of illegally prescribing opioids. Matthew Korcz, authorities said, served as his wife’s office manager at the former Hoover Alt MD on South Shades Crest Road.
