Later this week, heavy snowfall in higher elevations will come to the North Coast, impacting travel on major highways. Hail could also create slippery roads around Humboldt Bay in a storm that will bring brisk weather to Humboldt, Trinity, Del Norte and Mendocino counties. Eureka’s National Weather Service advised people to delay all travel if possible.
Flooding along the coast and in low lying areas came to Humboldt County with a storm. Around Humboldt Bay, the storm had so far brought 1.5-2 inches Wednesday, according the National Weather Service Eureka, with the Kings Range seeing a higher amount of precipitation.
More rain, wind, and some flooding is expected for this week, though a meteorologist noted flooding would be less severe in Humboldt County than a storm that caused widespread damage earlier this month and sparked Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal to proclaim a local emergency.
On Saturday morning, the moon will pass between the earth and the sun and create a “ring of fire” solar eclipse visible in Humboldt County. Or at least it would be, if not for a weather system that will spell a heavy cloud cover, blocking the sun.
Dry lightning across the North Coast beginning last Monday marked the region’s annual entry into California’s fire season, and a new storm system expected to taper off this Monday could create additional hazards, including more fires.
