A Hibbing man is dead after a head-on collision along U.S. Highway 169 in Greenway Township early Sunday morning.
Larry Peter Meyer, 69, suffered fatal injuries after Matthew Jesse Kirkpatrick, 38, of Keewatin, crossed the center line in a 2003 Ford Explorer and struck Meyer s 2019 Dodge Ram around 5:05 a.m., according to a Minnesota State Patrol report.
Meyer was transported to Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids. He had not been wearing a seat belt.
Kirkpatrick was transported to Essentia Health-St. Mary s Medical Center in Duluth with what authorities described as life-threatening injuries. He was wearing a seat belt.

ITASCA COUNTY, MN The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a fatal vehicle crash Sunday in Greenway Township.
According to a report, 38-year-old Matthew Jesse Kirkpatrick was driving eastbound on Highway 169 around 5 a.m. when he crossed the center-line and struck a Dodge Ram head-on.
The driver of the Dodge, 69-year-old Larry Peter Meyer from Hibbing, suffered fatal injuries.
Kirkpatrick suffered life-threatening injuries and has been taken to St. Mary s Hospital in Duluth.
Officials said road conditions were wet at the time of the incident and impaired driving appeared to be a factor. However, it s stated Kirkpatrick was not under the influence of alcohol.
