Human rights activist Patrisse Cullors announced Thursday, May 27, that she’s stepping down as the Black Lives Matter Global Foundation executive director.
The 37-year-old, who’s been at the helm of the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation since 2013, said she’s leaving to focus on other projects, including the upcoming release of her second book and a multi-year TV development deal with Warner Bros. Black Lives Matter started as a hashtag in 2013 and has since become a global movement.
Ms. Cullors’ last day with the foundation is Friday. The announcement came after her personal wealth and lifestyle received a barrage of scrutiny, with reports claiming that she owned four homes.
