A new bridge over the A63 in Hull is now open to the public following the conclusion of a major Highways England project. The pedestrian and cycle bridge was originally scheduled to open before Hull became City of Culture in 2017 but faced major delays after the foundations needed extra work in 2016. The bridge crosses the dual carriageway of the A63, allowing pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross the road, and easing congestion on the A63. Named Murdoch’s Connection after the city s first female GP, Dr Mary Murdoch, it stands at 47m tall, 60m long and weighs 150t. It was designed by Arup and Matter Architecture, and the contractor on the project was Interserve.
