Student and teacher seats on state education board safe after lawmakers reach agreement Olivia Krauth, Louisville Courier Journal © Matt Stone/Courier Journal Kentucky Senate president Robert Stivers presiding on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021 FRANKFORT Students and teachers will continue to have a voice on the state education board after lawmakers reached an agreement on how to handle the non-voting spots Tuesday. The House and Senate entered a free conference committee on House Bill 178 after repeatedly disagreeing as to whether a current student and teacher should serve on the board in an advisory role.  Under an agreement reached Tuesday, Kentucky Board of Education members would have the authority to select the teacher and student, rather than the governor.
