Streator High School therapy dog to begin training this fall

  STREATOR – Streator High School students will be seeing a furry four-legged friend roaming around the school this fall. Superintendent Dr. Matt Seaton says the school is awaiting the arrival of their therapy pup that will be born this summer. The board chose a couple from within the school to be the pup’s handlers. The couple will begin handler training before the pups arrival this summer and will go through on-site training at the school in the fall. The therapy dog is all part of Streator Area United Way’s Therapy Dog Program. Local Weather

Streator High School creates SRO job description, position will soon be posted

  STREATOR – Streator High School is beginning the process of seeking out a school resource officer. According to Superintendent Dr. Matt Seaton, due to short staffing, an SRO will not be available via the city of Streator and the LaSalle County Sheriff’s Department. Seaton recommended posting the position in the next month to begin the interview process to hire an individual by fall. The school would be looking for a retired police officer who is licensed to carry a weapon. Local Weather

Seaton names memorable moments during his tenure as Streator High School s Superintendent

April 20, 2021   STREATOR – Superintendent Dr. Matt Seaton leaves a lasting impression on Streator High School as he transitions to a new chapter in his career. Seaton will be Illinois Valley Community College’s new Vice President of Business and Finance in May. Seaton has been Superintendent of Streator High School since 2014. He was a major catalyst in reversing the school’s million dollar deficit by 2016, putting the district in a solid position to this day and beyond. When asked about some of Seaton’s most memorable moments as superintedent, he noted the school’s auditorium renovation.

Streator High School Supt Seaton appointed VP of Business Services and Finance at IVCC

April 15, 2021   OGLESBY – Streator Township High School Supt. Matt Seaton will be appointed Illinois Valley Community College’s Vice President for Business Services and Finance. The board of trustees will make the appointment at its 5 p.m. Monday, May 3 reorganizational meeting. Seaton will start at IVCC June 17. Current V.P. of Business Services Cheryl Roelfsema will retire July 31 after 13 years in the position. Corcoran said, “I am very much looking forward to working with Dr. Seaton and know that he will do a great job for the college. His leadership team’s track record for success at Streator Township High School speaks for itself and he will quickly find a talented group of dedicated professionals ready to work with him at IVCC.”

Streator High School outdoor graduation approved by health department

  STREATOR – An outdoor graduation is in the works for Streator High School’s class of 2021. According to Superintendent Matt Seaton, the plan was approved by the LaSalle County Health Department to host graduation on the football field. Seaton says seniors will be seated in the grandstands and family members will be situated on the field in designated areas, all six feet apart. The graduation is expected to fall on a Saturday with a Sunday rain date. Local Weather
