The COVID-19 pandemic increased the importance of the health care organization’s role in the community, and at the same time increased the stress and long hours of her job. Getman said this all played a role in her decision to retire this summer.

(Enterprise photo — Elizabeth Izzo) SARANAC LAKE Sylvia Getman, the president and chief executive officer of Adirondack Health, announced plans to retire this summer on Monday, and a national search committee is being developed to find her successor as head of the region-wide health care system. Getman’s tentative last day on the job is July 1, but Adirondack Health spokesperson Matt Scollin said because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic she has agreed to a flexible transition timeline if a new leader is not found by then.

the Enterprise staff SARANAC LAKE The Essex and Franklin County health departments are staging a coronavirus vaccine clinic in Saranac Lake on Thursday, but the appointments filled up quickly. The two health departments are pooling resources to administer 400 first doses at a joint clinic at North Country Community College’s Saranac Lake campus this week. Not long after the Essex County Health Department alerted members of the community on Tuesday that appointments were open for this clinic, the appointments were all filled, according to a notice posted on the state Department of Health’s appointment registration website. The vaccine doses for the Saranac Lake clinic have been set aside for eligible essential workers and those with preexisting conditions. Public health officials have suggested those who are over the age of 65, thus eligible to be vaccinated, contact a local pharmacy to make an appointment to get vaccinated.
