Cathedral City senior suffers fatal medical emergency seated in tow truck hours after getting COVID vaccine
A 78-year-old Cathedral City man died today when he suffered a medical emergency on Interstate 10 in Beaumont hours after getting the COVID-19 vaccine at an area Veterans Health Administration hospital.
The initial 911 call came in about 2:05 p.m. on the I-10 Oak Valley Parkway eastbound offramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Officer Matt Napier said the septuagenarian and another person were en route home from getting him his COVID-19 shot when their car broke down near Calimesa Boulevard. They called for a tow truck, which picked them up and continued eastbound toward the Coachella Valley.

BEAUMONT, CA One person died Tuesday afternoon in Beaumont at the Oak Valley Parkway offramp from eastbound Interstate 10, but there was no crash.
The incident was reported at 2:05 p.m. by the California Highway Patrol.
A person suffered a medical emergency and was pronounced dead at the scene; no vehicles were involved, according to the CHP.

Authorities today publicly identified a 31-year-old mother who was fatally injured in a head-on collision near Moreno Valley that her three young children survived.
Lucretia Garland of San Jacinto died at Riverside University Medical Center in Moreno Valley about two hours after the crash, which occurred about 6:50 a.m. Tuesday on Gilman Springs Road, east of Alessandro Boulevard, just outside the Moreno Valley city limits.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Matt Napier, a sedan for unknown reasons crossed over the double yellow lines, clipped a box truck,
and then collided head-on with Garland s car.

The eastbound Moreno Valley (60) Freeway between Moreno Valley and Beaumont will be shut down Friday night and through the weekend, and the California Highway Patrol is urging motorists to avoid the corridor and plan on taking alternate routes.
From 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, the CHP will close all eastbound lanes between Gilman Springs Road, just east of Moreno Valley, to the Interstate 10/60 Interchange in Beaumont as part of the “State Route 60 Truck Lanes Project.”
According to the Riverside County Transportation Commission, the full eastbound 60 closure is required to re-position concrete barriers along a 4.5- mile stretch, as part of a shift from old traffic lanes to new ones that have been established. Westbound lanes on the 60 will not be impacted.
