Oshkosh City Council ends mask mandate

View Comments OSHKOSH – Residents won t have to wear a mask after the city council decided to end its mandate on Friday following updated guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Council members voted 6-1 in support of ending the city s mandate after state and federal officials said Thursday that fully vaccinated residents do not have to wear a face covering or social distance. The local mask mandate, which required residents to wear a face covering in public spaces, was set to expire May 31.   We should not have a mask mandate that runs counter to the CDC guidelines, said council member Michael Ford during Friday s meeting.

Oshkosh adopts No Mow May to help bees, pollinators

Oshkosh residents won t have to take out their lawn mowers until June this year. The Oshkosh Common Council voted 5-2 on Wednesday to approve No Mow May, a resolution letting residents stop lawn maintenance until June to promote pollinator species and their habits. During May the city won t enforce the requirement for property owners to cut grass over eight inches, or give fines to violators of up to $500. Think about it not like a month of sitting on your bums and watching the grass grow, but rather think about it as a month to be proactive about bee and pollinator conservation. Get those native plants out there, said Israel Del Tora, an assistant professor at Lawrence University, who spoke during public comment.
