On Monday, December 28, 2020, in Vacaville, California, Roberto Palomino was walking when he heard a dog crying and yelping. He said, “the dog was crying like someone was running him over or something.” Palomino turned to see a police officer who was pinning down his three-year-old police pup in training with his full body weight. The poor dog, Major, was pressed against the concrete as his “caretaker” punched him over and over. The footage is absolutely heartbreaking and doesn’t even include the violence that occurred before Palomino had a chance to start recording.
Vacaville cop who punched K-9 partner still working
He has been separated from the dog.
There have been calls for the officer to be fired, and some animal organizations have condemned the officer’s actions.
“As a veterinarian and dog lover, I was deeply disturbed by the video. Police Capt. (Matt) Lydon has defended the officer’s behavior, saying that he was ‘correcting the dog’ for not wanting to give up a toy. The abuse of power and authority in this case is heartbreaking,” Linda Sanders, a veterinarian and biology instructor at Diablo Community College, wrote in an email to the Daily Republic.

VACAVILLE, Calif. (KOVR) - A police department said part of its dog-training program could legitimately involve punching them in the face.
It’s defending that practice after a horrified witness captured video of the incident.
“I can still remember hearing the dog crying,” Roberto Palomino said.
Tucked between two trailers, Palomino saw something he said he’ll never forget.
