MIDLAND, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Governor Gretchen Whitmer is scheduled to give an update on the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the latest in vaccination efforts.
The briefing is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m. in Midland, where one year ago massive floods devastated the region. It happened after the Edenville and Sanford Dams in Midland County failed during heavy rainfall. Nearly 11,000 people had to evacuate their homes.
The Governor will be joined by Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, Midland Mayor Maureen Donker, CEO and Chairman of Dow Jim Fitterling, Great Lakes Bay Region Alliance President Matt Felan, and President and General Manager of Dow Diamond Chris Mundhenk.

Midland residents have largely repaired damage and cleaned up since last year s flood. But the vanished lakes are always present, like open wounds daily reminders that resolution and restoration are still far off. As the blame game plays out in litigation in both Michigan and federal courts, the price tag for rebuilding the lakes, for those who built their lives around them, may prove too much for some.
