In Tuesday s city council meeting, the council voted in favor of extending the city s al fresco dining program, allowing for an extension of the pandemic outdoor dining options. According to the Mayor s office, they are hoping this program becomes a permanent part of the downtown fabric. Right now, the extension allows for street dining until June 30th, 2022, just over another year. Over 120 restaurants are currently participating in the program, according to the city parking manager Matt Eierman. He said he will be working with the city staff and businesses to help clean up the look of the makeshift seating to bring a more uniformed look to the structures. In a statement from Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg, he says that 229 businesses have received grant money from the federal CARES Act funds and it helped keep many businesses afloat.
