Clock controversy shrouds No 19 Stony Brook men s lacrosse s buzzer-beater loss at Vermont – The Statesman

ETHAN TAM/THE STATESMAN A crucial clock error cost the No. 19-ranked Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team in the toughest way possible as the Seawolves lost their second straight game on Saturday, May 1 on the road against the Vermont Catamounts 14-13. Graduate midfielder Chris Pickel Jr. tied the game at 13 for the Seawolves with only eight seconds remaining. Vermont won the ensuing faceoff and senior attackman Liam Limoges got the ball past Stony Brook junior goalkeeper Anthony Palma before the buzzer in a heartbreaking defeat for the Seawolves. The referees met and determined that Limoges scored before time expired. However, upon further review, it appears that numerous seconds elapsed between Vermont winning the faceoff and the clock starting, giving the Catamounts more time than they should have had to execute the game-winning buzzer-beater.

No 14 Stony Brook men s lacrosse snaps six-game win streak with another OT loss to UMBC – The Statesman

ETHAN TAM/THE STATESMAN In the final regular season game at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium for a talented senior class, the No. 14-ranked Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team rallied from a four-goal deficit in the third quarter to take the UMBC Retrievers to overtime for the second time this season. But just like the last meeting, the Seawolves fell in overtime this time by a final score of 14-13 on Saturday, April 24. The game started off slow for Stony Brook as the Seawolves fell behind by two early, before taking the lead at the end of the first quarter. However, by the end of the half, the Retrievers were already back up by two goals with a score of 8-6, scoring four of the last five goals before entering the break.

No 18 Stony Brook Men s Lacrosse bulldozes Binghamton 22-8 in sixth straight win – The Statesman

ETHAN TAM/THE STATESMAN For the first time in over a year, fans watched Stony Brook Men’s Lacrosse at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium. Stony Brook offered limited tickets to the Seawolves’ April 16 matchup against the Binghamton Bearcats and required proof of a negative COVID-19 test or vaccination upon entry. The Seawolves stomped the rival Bearcats 22-8, scoring the most goals in a single game since a 25-goal 2017 game against Brown and the most goals in head coach Anthony Gilardi’s time with the team. Four players recorded hat tricks, led by senior midfielder Mike McCannell’s five goals. His six points matched the career-high he set last week against NJIT.

No 20 Men s Lacrosse keeps rolling with rout of Hartford – The Statesman

RABIA GURSOY/STATESMAN FILE Back in the national rankings and beating up conference opponents, the No. 20 Stony Brook men’s lacrosse team took to the road on Saturday, April 3. The Seawolves routed the Hartford Hawks by a final score of 17-6 behind a hat trick from graduate attackman Tom Haun.  Stony Brook was ranked as high as No. 17 earlier in the season, its first national ranking placement in four years, before a three-game losing streak saw the team tumble in the polls. After beating Albany last week, who were ranked No.19, the Seawolves jumped back in. Another blowout on Saturday for the team’s fourth straight win should only solidify that.
