Police given city noise guidelines

Kewanee now has a new noise ordinance which should make it easier for police to deal with noisy neighbors.
The ordinance, approved last week by the City Council, defines downtown Kewanee as an “entertainment area” and sets decibel limits for acceptable sound levels in the area.
It also allows police officers to cite residents “if the officer has probable cause to believe the noise is unreasonably loud and raucous.” Citations may also be issued if a neighbor signs a complaint.
Police have a decibel meter for measuring sound levels, and the ordinance sets limits on how many decibels are acceptable.
