2021 NHL Draft Lottery & Draft Preview for the New Jersey Devils

Photo by Bruce Bennett/Getty Images for the NHL The New Jersey Devils have finished 29th out of 31 teams in last season’s truncated regular season. This means they have better odds than all but three teams in this year’s NHL Draft Lottery. You may be tired of caring about it. You may wish the days of cheering on the team to gain more lottery ball combinations are over soon. You may want the Devils to at least not have a double-digit chance at winning them next year. I hear you. I understand you. Hopefully, you will get you want in the near future. But tonight, it is what it is. Once again, we shall wonder whether the lottery will favor the New Jersey Devils or at least not favor their hated rivals.

It certainly was a week to hate as the New Jersey Devils put in some of their worst performances in this season against the one team no Devils fan wants to see them suffer against. Thursday’s 0-4 loss was especially terrible; arguably their worst performance of the season. Hopefully it was their rock-bottom game of the season There were plenty of cringe-worthy moments. Take your pick: Damon Severson, who has 473 NHL games of experience, failing to defend a 2-on-1 competently; former Norris Trophy winner P.K. Subban continuing to flop in the middle instead of defending a 2-on-1; watching the Devils watch the plodding Kevin Rooney split the D for a breakaway; just about every power play situation for New Jersey; taking a too many men on the ice call during a penalty kill on Saturday; the lack of discipline and the passive diamond penalty kill on Sunday; and so forth. A Very Early Look at the 2021 NHL Draft for the NJ Devils Fan

Photo by Chris Tanouye/Getty Images There have been no games, practices, or training sessions involving the New Jersey Devils since the now-infamous January 31 win in Buffalo. The team’s COVID-19 Protocol List broke out to as many as 19 players as games over the past two weeks were postponed. Good news may be imminent. The team re-opened their training facility on Thursday, Sunday night’s update saw the list go down to just five players, and the Devils are expected to have practice on Monday. The Devils may actually get to play some games this week. Of course, with no games or team activities, there is not a whole lot to discuss. Hence, I turned to you, the People Who Matter, to decide between two ideas. More of you wanted a Stupendously Early Look at the 2021 NHL Draft and so here it is. There is a lot to cover, so be forewarned before diving in.
