Liverpool’s public health director has moved to reassure people in the city that an upcoming events pilot is not linked to vaccine passport proposals after businesses involved received abuse.
It will see Liverpool follow in the footsteps of Amsterdam and Barcelona by taking part in what is being described as “science-led research”. The council says the Events Research Programme will be used to provide key scientific data into how events for a range of audiences could be permitted to safely reopen as part of Step 4 of the roadmap out of lockdown, commencing no earlier than June 21.

Belle Vale remains the Liverpool area with the highest Covid-19 cases in Liverpool, with a significantly higher rate than anywhere else in the city.
The Covid-19 infection rate in Liverpool as a whole remains at close to 50 cases per 100,000 people, a level it has been near for almost a week.
However, there are a number of wards in the city that still have worryingly high levels of coronavirus.
