matt, maybe because tonight is our third anniversary, i m going to mention on this broadcast for the first time the actor james woods, who, after 9/11, calls the fbi and says when i think about it, i realize i was on a flight that was a dry run for 9/11. fbi came to his house. he is questioned about it and he gave them all the details of what he saw happening in the first class cabin. now, in the post-9/11 world, we have morphed from being chiefly concerned about terrorism to now very concerned about this. can this rightly be called a dry run for perhaps what we saw in brexit and perhaps what we saw hit us in 2016 that has moved in here to stay? brian, happy anniversary, by the way. thank you. i do think it s safe to call it a dry run, although i would
nobody thought of estonia as an influence operation, so nobody went back and looked at the lessons learned and used them to prepare for 2016. and a reminder to our viewers that the russian goal was to break up the atlantic alliance and turn friends into enemies. with that, matt apuzo, we will be watching this week s edition of the weekly on sunday night. we thank anybody around here willing to get up at 5:00 a.m. on a saturday morning, especially in a place as beautiful as brussels. so thank you. always a pleasure to have you from brussels. coming up for us, who will pay for the wall? we now know it won t be mexico. we will break down, however, projects right here in the u.s. that are losing their funding so that the wall can go up.
minister. yesterday, eu allies taunted u.s. officials, including vice president mike pence over war rhetoric against iran and shrinking support for nato. here s part of a report from nbc chief foreign affairs correspondent andrea mitchell. reporter: it was a chilly reception from the moment he arrived at the munich security conference. i bring greetings from the 45th president of the united states of america, president donald trump. reporter: the silence was deafening. that s because president trump has split with america s closest allies on nearly every issue. unlike mike pence, germany s chancellor angela merkel got a standing ovation for her speech, warning against recent trump policies. and the conference chairman even suggested president trump, not vladimir putin, is now widely viewed as undermining world order. joining me now, matt apuzo, nbc contributor, joining us from brussels, the seat of the eu. matt, when i heard that moment of silence, i was like, youch! that was a
some former intels call a political 9/11, it might have been a very different outcome. exactly. and i think we can extrapolate that through the whole investigation. even if robert mueller does not bring a massive conspiracy indictment that proves donald trump sat down with some russians and orchestrated the whole thing, that doesn t mean there isn t an enormous, potentially impeachable scandal here, that these people took meetings with russian folks who are were connected to an intelligence operation to manipulate our election. whether they did it wittingly or unwittingly, they were warned by the fbi and took no action. they took the trump tower meeting. the fbi told them they should call the authorities if russians contacted them. they didn t do that. that is a scandal, nicolle. if it wasn t zero minus 400, would i keep you talking but i will let you go. matt apuzo, great to have you back. joyce, ken, thank you all. after the break, donald trump on fake news and what he consider
in 2016 the last conversation he had about the project was he said, quote, i would sap it was early to middle of the year. now, i don t know that cohen didn t go a little bit longer than that. i don t think it would be much longer. he added, i was running for president. i was doing really well. the last thing i cared about was building a building. matt, joyce, ken and heidi are all back. joyce, this seems to be that sort of heartbeat of the mueller probe, was there a financial tie? was russia aware of things that we weren t aware of back here in terms of donald trump s pursuit of a real estate project there? and the president seemed in this interview to come a whole lot closer to corroborating michael cohen s timeline than his own original position, which the talks stopped in january of 2016. yeah, this is what you have to do as a defend or as a subject of an investigation, if
