Sidewalk, Road Repair Projects Approved by Sedalia Council Tuesday night s City Council meeting began with a moment of silence for former Sedalia Mayor Jane Gray, who died June 26. Gray began her time with the City of Sedalia as a Fourth Ward Councilman in 1983. In 1991, she served as councilman and acting mayor. And Gray served as mayor from April 20, 1992 to April 15, 2002. Mayor Kehde, Fire Chief Greg Harrell, City Clerk Arlene Silvey, and Council members Rhiannon Foster and Bob Cross had nothing but kind words for Sedalia s first female mayor. Sedalia Firefighter Joseph Parnell was then recognized for five years of service.

SFCC Announces 2021 Distinguished Alumni, Graduation Details

SFCC Announces 2021 Distinguished Alumni, Graduation Details State Fair Community College is pleased to recognize nursing professional Lana Kay Kelly as the 2021 Distinguished Alumni. She will be the keynote speaker for SFCC’s Health Sciences pinning and commencement at 1 p.m. May 14 in the Mathewson Exhibition Center on the Missouri State Fair Grounds. Lenny Freund who was selected as the 2020 Distinguished Alumni will be the speaker for the general commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. May 14 in the Exhibition Center. Freund was not able to speak at last year’s ceremony because it was canceled out of concern for the health and safety of all participants during the pandemic. Attendance at both ceremonies is limited to students and guests who have tickets. Masks and social distancing are required.

AREA  FFA CHAPTERS RECEIVE TOP CHAPTER AWARDS

The Missouri FFA Association awarded the Sweet Springs, Slater and Boonville FFA Chapters a Gold Emblem, a Top Chapter Award at the Missouri FFA State Convention at the Mathewson Exhibition Center in Sedalia over the weekend. Sweet Springs placed 4th, Slater eighth and Boonville 23rd of 351 chapters. Only 10 percent of state chapters receive a top chapter designation each year. The Sweet Springs FFA advisors are Kristen Fenner and Brent Niemeyer. The Slater FFA advisor is Zach Crews. The Boonville FFA advisors are Doug Henke and Deanna Thies. The National Chapter Award Program is designed to recognize FFA chapters that actively implement the mission and strategies of the organization. These chapters improve chapter operations using the National Quality Chapter Standards and a Program of Activities that emphasize growing leaders, building communities and strengthening agriculture. Chapters are rewarded for providing educational experiences for the entire membership.

MISSOURI FFA WILL HONOR MEMBERS APRIL 30-MAY 1 IN SEDALIA

This year’s convention theme is “Show-Me More”. Due to COVID-19-related health concerns, attendance at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention will be by invitation only. Sessions will be live-streamed at livestream.com/modese/moffa. Convention results will be online at convention.missouriffa.org. Missouri FFA President Justin Eddy, Columbia FFA Chapter member, along with the other 15 state officers will conduct convention sessions. Earlier in April, the 686 delegates- two from each chapter- held the business session via survey. The results will be announced during the convention’s first session at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Also during the first session, Missouri State Fair Director Mark Wolfe will welcome members and guests, and Missouri Department of Agriculture Director Chris Chinn will share remarks. Chapter Activity Awards and leadership-development event results will be presented. LDEs and career-development events were held prior to convention.
