Mathews board adopts budget on 3-2 vote – Gazette Journal

By Sherry Hamilton on May 12, 2021 The Mathews County Board of Supervisors took just three minutes to pass the $28.13 million FY 2021-2022 budget on Tuesday during a special meeting called for that purpose. The vote was 3-2, with supervisors Amy Dubois, Melissa Mason, and board chair Mike Rowe supporting the motion to approve the budget and Paul Hudgins and Jackie Ingram voting against. The balanced budget is approximately $576,000 less than the current year’s budget and requires no tax increase. It provides $15.59 million toward the Mathews County Public Schools budget and $2.33 million to the county’s Social Services budget. It also includes capital expenses of $695,000 for technology that will be covered by a matching grant; $341,000 for infrastructure maintenance, $222,000 of which is for the new public safety radio system; and $14,500 for renovations to structures on the Historic Court Green. The remaining $8.96 million funds the county budget.

Mathews Schools Switches To 4-day In Person Learning On Apr 12

Mathews County Public Schools will switch to a 4-day-per-week in-person schedule starting Apr. 12. The Gazette Journal reports students currently attending in-person in the hybrid model will move to the new schedule with Wednesdays remaining a day for deep cleaning of the buildings.
