New Albion College CFO brings business experience to the job

ALBION, MI Albion College has named Gary Black as its new chief financial officer, effective Feb. 22.
Black most recently served as chief financial officer at Finlandia University in Hancock, according to an Albion College news release. He also spent time working in corporate finance at Johnson & Johnson, as well as executive roles at DRS Naval Power Systems and Trident Maritime Systems.
“I have never gone the conventional route,” Black said. “When the Albion position opened, I thought that this was something that could be right up my alley. This was higher education and it’s a small, private school. I enjoy that and I thought they could probably use my skill set. I’ve been through so many different roles and I’ve had a very broad business background, and I think it helps me provide private-industry experience and bring it someplace that doesn’

A December decision to block a request to split a 30,796-square-foot lot in Southwest Rochester is being appealed.
On Dec. 9, the Rochester Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-4 to direct community development staff to deny a requested division of the lot that includes the Harwick House following an appeal by neighbors, who cited the historic nature of the home as part of the Pill Hill Historic District.
