Subscriber only A new Northern Rivers brewery is getting closer to opening its doors to the public despite a few setbacks along the way. After getting council approval to open Two Mates Brewing in South Lismore in February, the owners have been working hard to get their taps flowing. Co-owner Grant Smith had told The Northern Star he d hoped the brewery would open before Easter, but there s been some delays. The brewery now says things are progressing . “Blackflag produces a pale ale, Indian pale ale and sour beer, Heads of Noosa specialises in a range of lagers produced using solar power, Diablo Co produces white spirits based ginger beer produced with sugar cane from the Sunshine Coast, and Ohana Winery produces a boutique cider range from apples grown in Stanthorpe.” Member for Gladstone Glenn Butcher said the festival gave crowds the opportunity to sample some of the best beer and cider from Queensland s best breweries.
Event organiser Jemma Tangohau said it was unknown how much revenue was generated on the day but the event’s production costs would go towards Gladstone’s Harbour Festival in April.

Two Mates Brewing’s long-mooted craft brewery in South Lismore looks set to finally get the green light to proceed.
The company’s development application will be discussed at the upcoming Lismore City Council meeting on February 9.
Two Mates Brewing, run by Grant Smith and Andrew Newton, wants to bring a boutique craft brewing facility to the old railway shed in South Lismore.
Located at 7 Engine St, the DA would allow for a craft brewery to be built on site, including wholesale of brewery products, brewery tours, Tap House customer area for tastings, takeaway sale of brewery products and merchandise, a mobile food van area and a play area.
