Can the state’s determination of an essential service and a host of protesting legislators, nurses and everyday citizens get the UMass Memorial Health system to blink? That appears to be the only path for the survival of Leominster Hospital’s maternity unit, which is scheduled for closure in September.
A spokesperson for UMass Memorial HealthAlliance-Clinton Hospital said yesterday that they will be "thoughtfully and equitably" finding a way to provide any necessary maternity services to their customers that may be affected by the closure of their maternity ward.

The Department of Health have eased restrictions around maternity services across Northern Ireland from today, May 7.
Women will now be able to have one person accompany them to antenatal appointments as well as for the duration of their labour and after the birth.
