Eight teams took to the ice on Saturday looking to advance to the semifinals and a chance to win a medal. After a long day of hockey, the four finalists emerged. There weren’t really any surprises. Russia, Canada, and the Unites States advanced as expected. It was a toss-up between Sweden and Finland with the Finns fighting back to win a hard-fought game.
All four of the games were interesting and close. Three of the four teams that scored first won their games, but no one had a lead of more than two goals prior to the final minutes.
Team USA – and Flyers prospects Cam York and Bobby Brink – held off a rally by Slovakia to claim a 5-2 win. Team Sweden – and Flyers prospect Emil Andrae – were eliminated on a last-minute goal in a 3-2 defeat to Finland. Team Canada defeated Czech Republic and Russia defeated Germany to round out the final four teams of the tournament.

The Americans will play Finland in the second semifinal Monday. Canada and Russia meet in the opener.
The United States had a 43-17 edge in shots on goal, but the game got tight after the U.S. took a 3-0 lead. Slovakia ended the United States shutout streak at the tournament at 218 minutes, 53 seconds on Matej Kaslik s goal late in the second period, then pulled within a goal on Dominik Sojka s tip-in on the power play halfway through the third period.
But Farinacci restored the Americans two-goal lead by powering in a backhand with 4:14 to play, giving him four goals in five games. Matty Beniers added an empty-netter.
