Eleven deserving female students at Flagler College have recently been awarded scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year by the Women of Vision Advisory Board of Flagler. The value of this year’s awards is $32,000.
“Because of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic during the past year, many families are still experiencing economic hardships, and the financial need among students is greater than ever,” said Linda Allen-Hawkins, chair of the Women of Vision Advisory Board. “We were delighted to be able to help these exceptional young women who have maintained competitive GPA’s, while actively participating in campus and volunteer work.”

Originally from New York, Fish came to St. Augustine in 1736 when he was 10 or 12 years old. Fish stayed with the Herrera family where he learned the language and customs of Spanish St. Augustine.
St. Johns County has reinstated and refunded its Land Acquisition and Management Program after more than a decade on the backburner due to budgetary constraints.
The program was established in 1999 to acquire and preserve environmentally sensitive land for public access and passive recreational purposes. Some of the greenspaces created through LAMP include the Alpine Groves River Park, Vilano Beach Oceanfront Park and the Southeast Intracoastal Waterway Park.
County officials, however, pulled the plug on the program in 2008 at the beginning of the economic recession.
At their regular meeting Tuesday, county commissioners voted 3-2 to reactivate the program at an annual appropriation of $500,000.
