KCC mayor distributes food aid among 320 destitute people

KHULNA, April 21, 2021 (BSS) – Mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Talukder Abdul Khaleque distributed foodstuffs among 320 needy, jobless, low-income workers and destitute people to minimize the present adverse impact of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the city today.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) organised the programme at Boyra Police Line Ground with its commissioner Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan in the chair.
The mayor distributed 18 kgs of essential relief materials including 7-kg rice, 3 – kg potato, 2- kg pulse, 2- kg onion, 1- kg sugar, 1- kg, 1- kg salt, 500-gm garlic and 500-gm shemai to each aimed at mitigating their financial hardship.
Import, export cost goes up as freight rates rise
Freight charges have risen in the last few weeks due to the adverse effects of Covid-19 on the global shipping sector, pushing the cost for importers and exporters in Bangladesh, industry people said.
Major mainline operations have increased the freight rates citing an acute shortage of empty containers following a surge in demand for imports.
Besides, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the global supply chain, causing delays in shipment and congestion at several ports, they said.
CMA-CGM, the fourth largest container shipping line in the world, has recently announced that it would implement new freight charges for the routes between base ports in Northern Europe and the Indian subcontinent.
