Lokesh Kanagaraj humanizes Vijay s character in Master. Vijay does not play a messiah in the film. That he has some personal demons make the character interesting. Master is a typical Vijay film on paper, but its director Lokesh Kanagaraj makes it different from many of the star s other movies. As far as the plot goes, it is a straightforward Vijay movie with clearly defined heroes and villains. Vijay is not playing his usual role of a savior of the masses here. His JD is a college professor, or the Director of Student Affairs as one of the characters describes him. That designation explains why Vijay s hero introduction scene has him bashing some amoral college students up. It is a matter of student affairs that JD must deal with.

What Is the Film About?
JD (Vijay) is an alcoholic professor. It irks many, but he also gets support and following because he is a man with a right heart at the end of the day. Unfortunately, an incident forces him to move out of college to a juvenile home.
How things progress at the juvenile home and Bhavani (Vijay Sethupathi) enters the JD’s life? What changes does JD bring and his confrontation with Bhavani form the rest of the plot and overall story?
How Is Vijay’s Performance?
Vijay is his usual self with full of swag as one expects. There is no wrong beat, and he goes all out to please his fans. The styling is classy and very urban with a little bit of ruggedness. The small difference he brings with Master is the drunkard stupor. Not much change overall, but one gets it.
