president trump campaigned as master of the art of deal. the president abandoned his own republican leaders to cut a deal with democrats to cut hurricane relief. republican leaders are said to be fuming and today trump softened his threat on the daca program. he said you have nothing to worry about. no action. he tweeted about it this morning. he called this morning and i said thanks for calling. this is what the people really need a reassurance from you, mr. president. and boom, boom, boom, the tweet appeared. let s bring in the roundtable.
what he is, how he tries to operate, and i m sure they are giving the president good strong guidance about going into the meeting and how to play, not play, that s not a good word, but how to interact appropriately and effectively with vladimir putin. they have to go into the meeting with their shields up, and not, you know, being willing to fall for anything, but they also have to look for opportunities to try to make some points and put some points on the board for themselves in terms of working with russia on issues where we can agree and making clear we re not going to cooperate with russia in effective fashion on those issues where, obviously, they have proven unwilling or incapable of helping the international community out such as on syria. yeah. the president considers himself a master of the art of the deal. we ll see how that works out during the summit. admiral john kirby, thank you so much for the time. my pleasure. coming up.

as the polls that we talked about at the top of the show show, that is not the vision that america has. obamacare for the first time is actually significantly more popular than unpopular while this plan is unbelievably unpopular. eddie, whatever happens today, passage or no passage, where does this leave president trump two months into his administration? this is the first big bite he took. he struggled through it, obviously. where does he stand next week as he tries to move forward? is he weakened by this process the past couple of months? i think he is. the idea as president trump as the closer seems to be called into question now. the idea of him being the master of the art of the deal seems to be called into question at this point. i think there are two major areas here. the issue around process and the issue around content. what we see with the legislation to my mind is a kind of cold hearted piece of legislation and what david brooks said in his op-ed in the new york times.
