NHL sells naming rights to its four divisions to corporate sponsors [Los Angeles Times]

Health regulations relating to the COVID-19 pandemic will keep fans out of the stands and out of pricey luxury suites in most arenas when the season opens Jan. 13, leading the NHL to become creative in finding alternative income sources. On Tuesday, the league announced it had partnered with four major sponsors to rename the four divisions it has created for this season.

In an attempt to maximize profits for this upcoming season the NHL announced Tuesday that they had sold naming rights to the newly re-aligned 4 divisions. This season will now feature the Scotia North Division, the Honda West Division, the Discover Central Division, and the MassMutual East Division. The move was made to generate revenue the league will lose due to no fans being in the stands for most games to start the season. The league expects this to be just a one year deal.
The league previously had announced that individual teams could sell an ad space on the teams’ helmets. NHL training camps are currently underway and the season is set to begin on Wednesday January 13
