and producer prices. housing. we have the fed mid we can as well. a lot of the funds at this point have locked in their gains and they are just coasting here to the homestretch, end of the year. they don t want to mess with what s been working. and the markets keep drifting higher. we hit new highs this morning on the dow. and the s&p. and it is a bit on new leadership this month. we had been led by financials, energy, materials, energy this morning, are actually lower. got oil down. 10% for the month. exxon, one of the biggest drags on the dow jones industrials average, on that deal to buy xto. they will issue some $31 billion worth in stock and assume another $10 billion in debt. the deal is 25% premium. you can see xto trading higher. natural gas players as a result are trading higher with speculation you might see some of the players taken out. the leadership we have seen so far in december has been in consumer discretionary. talked about the retailers. take a look at a l
affair broke. a major sponsor has dropped tiger, accenture, which paid woods $10 to $15 million a year terminated his contract in a state, the consulting giant said, quote there are signs other sponsor may follow in accenture s footsteps. gillette says it will limit his role, at&t. nike, electronic arts and luxury watch band tag heuer standing by him. how much of this will continue to unfold around tiger woods. nbc s reporter. dan, will this be a place for names to drop through. you would think since accenture dropped him others would follow. but in reality, each company has to make its own decision whether or not they can continue with tiger woods. gillette limiting the role of tiger woods makes sense because he s not going to be playing for the indefinite future, let s say. it makes sense. it doesn t mean they are dropping him. that being said, all these companies evaluating, they don t know what s going to come out next. tiger might not know what s going to come out
public opinion of tiger woods is on a downward spiral. we saw this starting right after all of this news started to break, the lopping list ng list extramarital affairs. 42% have a favorable view of tiger woods. in 2005 that number was 85%. cnbc s darren ravelle joins us now. would you buy an item because tiger endorsed it. some people said it didn t matter. that was a marist poll. they would still use the products and believe in the endorsement. i think the number is higher with sports fans but every day is a different story and companies right now, accenture, evaluated and said they wanted to get rid of him and make a statement they re not associated with him which is different than just disappearing and hope nobody notices. each company is evaluating the decision as to if they think they can even use tiger woods again. if the answer to that is no, they re going to want to get out now. and let s talk about the deal with accenture. i was speaking with a golf.com writer w
