Updated: 7:12 PM EDT Jul 4, 2021 The 2022 Massachusetts gubernatorial race now has its first Republican candidate.Former State Rep. Geoff Diehl announced his candidacy for governor of Massachusetts on Sunday by unveiling a new-look website.Diehl, a 52-year-old from Whitman, served the 7th Plymouth District on Beacon Hill from January 2011 to January 2019 after upsetting incumbent Allen McCarthy in November 2010.He ran for the U.S. Senate in 2018 but lost in the November general election to Democratic incumbent Elizabeth Warren.Diehl also served as Donald Trump s Massachusetts campaign co-chair during the 2016 presidential election.Both he and his wife, KathyJo, serve as State Committee members for the Massachusetts Republican Party.Diehl is among four candidates who have announced 2022 gubernatorial runs thus far, and the other three Ben Downing, Danielle Allen and Sonia Chang-Diaz are all Democrats.Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, a Republican, has not yet announced
