Growing Places debuts first community watering station for trees

Courtesy of Growing Places The Massachusetts Greening the Gateway Cities Program is an environmental and energy efficiency program designed to reduce household heating and cooling energy use by increasing tree canopy cover in Gateway Cities in Massachusetts, including Leominster.  Since 2018, more than 2,000 trees have been planted in Leominster by foresters from the Department of Conservation and Recreation and a crew of local foresters. It is important that these young trees are watered so they can grow and have the intended impact.  Recognizing the importance of this maintenance, Growing Places is debuting the first of several community watering stations starting with the French Hill neighborhood. The goal is to encourage residents of the neighborhood to water the newly planted trees. These trees (ranging from 6-10 feet tall) will need at least 15 gallons per week.
