Mass. museum features historic Juneteenth exhibit © WCVB a special commonwealth museum exhibit entitled “juneteenth: enslavement to emancipation” is now on display, featuring 14 historic documents from over 200 years. Saturday, June 19th marks Juneteenth, the day when the last of the enslaved African Americans were told they were free in Texas. The Commonwealth Museum in Dorchester unveiled a new Juneteenth celebration and exhibit on Wednesday. Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin unveiled some of the documents that will be on display. The exhibit entitled Juneteenth: Enslavement to Emancipation, features a total of 14 documents dating from 1641 to 1865. The centerpieces of the exhibit are an order from the Massachusetts Adjutant General announcing the Emancipation Proclamation and the Act by the Massachusetts Legislature ratifying the 13th Amendment.
