(KMIZ) Senior living communities are now operating with open dining areas and allowing visitors as the vaccination rates continue to increase and the health orders expire. The health orders for Boone County and Columbia also expired last Wednesday. Mason Neff at The Village of Bedford Walk independent living facility said these updates have allowed them to take steps towards returning to normal while keeping residents safe. Masks are still recommended to residents and staff, but Neff said it s optional because more than 95% of the residents are fully vaccinated and all staff members are fully vaccinated.

(KMIZ) Hospitals and senior living centers are welcoming more visitors as the number of active coronavirus cases in Boone County drops below 100 and vaccine distribution rolls on. Both MU Health Care and Boone Hospital Center have begun to allow visitors into their hospitals within the last two weeks. Boone Hospital Center has updated its visitor policy. Patients at both hospitals may have one designated visitor per day if they are not COVID positive. They also have visitor exceptions in place for obstetric patients, nursery and NICU and patients at the end of their life.

(KMIZ) Residents at an assisted living community in Columbia received their second dose of a coronavirus vaccine while residents at two other communities got their first doses. The residents and staff at Cedarhurst of Columbia got their second dose of the Moderna vaccine today. Angie Keeven, chief wellness officer at Cedarhurst, vaccinated residents during the first clinic. She said workers were tracked residents for side effects but they were minimal. At-most, residents experienced a sore arm, Keeven said. It s a little bit more common to see side effects after the second dose of the vaccine, Keeven said. She added residents will be closely monitored after Friday.
