Comedian James Roque promises a show that s personal, political, and full of punchlines. Photo / File We need comedy right now more than ever.
James Roque believes his show, Boy Mestizo, will give audiences what they need: an escape, a good laugh and a challenge. Comedy should be funny and it should speak truth to power, Roque told the Rotorua Daily Post.
Roque says he has been standing up to power since 2012, and has performed on stages across New Zealand, Australia and the United States.

The Masked Singer New Zealand, the Kiwi version of the global singing competition set hit our screens soon.
Randell will take the reins of the local iteration of the show, which sees a myriad of Kiwi celebrities and entertainers singing-off against one another - all while their identities are concealed by extravagant costumes.
A panel of famous faces will attempt to guess who the singer behind the mask is, with contestants being eliminated and unmasked until one takes home the golden Masked Singer trophy.

While it will be Randell s first time hosting a competition like this, he s no stranger to singing and dancing on screen himself. The broadcaster made his television debut competing on
New Zealand Idol at the age of 21, and more recently won third place on the 2019 season of
Dancing With The Stars NZ. I love singing, but the nerves to perform in front of a crowd are too much for me these days. in fact before any audition I would make my family sit on the couch with blankets over their heads so they couldn t see me, Randell said in a statement.
