In a country that routinely goes over the top in creativity, a new Japanese pop-up is having fun with face coverings, making them a more fashionable accessory and less a representation of all the things that went wrong in 2020.
Part pop-up store, part mini-museum, Tokyo Mask Land opened on Dec. 1 in Yokohama City, just outside of Tokyo, and features more than 250 types of masks. All created by Japanese designers, some of the most notable masks include a 3D mask that sells for about $1,000 USD and a Gold Dust Mask with a price tag of about $10,000 USD. More affordable masks are also available like those made with LED lights or traditional washi paper.
